I have so far enjoyed a property career spanning more than 15 years in both commercial and residential sectors, from urban environments in Newcastle and London to the isolated parts of the Yorkshire Moors and Wolds. I started my residential surveying career in 2016 for a large corporate firm where I have since inspected in the region of 5000 properties.

As a Yorkshireman I am passionate about saving money! Whilst many houses are constructed using similar materials, rarely are two properties the same. Nearly half of UK houses are either approaching, or older than 100 years old and have often experienced structural change over those years as the demands of the occupiers change. Every property has a different exposure to risks posed by environmental factors and there can also be stark differences in manufacturing quality even in the same materials. Exposure to high volumes of inspections has provided me with the ability to recognise defects that are limited to certain forms of construction or materials, or caused by environmental factors that are unique to a specific location/development. Local knowledge is key. My experience providing advice to lenders also allows me to advise on whether the future saleability of your intended purchase is likely to be affected by lender criteria.
